The UK\nVisas and Immigration<\/a> (UKVI), on 6th April 2015, changed its\nEnglish language requirements for UK visa and immigration applications. IELTS\ntests are now one of only two exams included on the UK government list of\nSecure English Language Tests (SELTs). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UKVI accepts IELTS at levels B1 to C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference\nfor Languages<\/a> (CEFR). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IELTS Life Skills<\/a> is a\nnew test which assesses Speaking and Listening at CEFR level A1 and at CEFR\nLevel B1. IELTS Life Skills can also be used to meet the English language\nrequirements for some classes of visa application, including ‘family of a\nsettled person’ visas and indefinite leave and citizenship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be used for visa and immigration purposes, IELTS and IELTS Life Skills\nmust be taken in test centres approved by the UKVI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Tier 1 (Exceptional\n Talent) visa\n <\/td>\n B1\n <\/td>\n 4.0 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 1 (Entrepreneur)\n visa\n <\/td>\n B1\n <\/td>\n 4.0 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 1 (Graduate\n Entrepreneur) visa\n <\/td>\n B1\n <\/td>\n 4.0 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 2 (General) visa\n <\/td>\n B1\n <\/td>\n 4.0 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 2 (Sportsperson)\n visa\n <\/td>\n A1\n <\/td>\n 4.0 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 2 (Minister of\n Religion) visa\n <\/td>\n B2\n <\/td>\n 5.5 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 4 (General) student\n visa – below degree level\n <\/td>\n B1\n <\/td>\n 4.0 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>
\n Tier 4 (General) student\n visa – degree level and above and including some pre-sessional courses\n <\/td>\n B2\n <\/td>\n 5.5 overall, and in each\n of the four skills \n <\/td><\/tr>

The actual test taken is the same in content, examiners, format, level of difficulty, scoring, etc. For purposes of a UK visa, the test is designed to meet certain administrative requirements specified by UKVI.
